Our baby is two! Lucy is such a character and adds so much to our family! It still is crazy to me that she is our blue-eyed blond-hair child. She has the exact same curls that Ella had at this age, just lighter in color. Beyond that, she and Ella aren't the same in any way. She is her own little person, with her big smile, infectious giggle, and strong-willed, stubborn personality. The past six months between 18 months and two years have been the most challenging by far. She was such an easy baby, but has become a very opinionated and spirited toddler :). She did great at her two year appointment and only let out a little, "ow" after she got one shot - no tears!
Her two year stats:
Height: 35.75" - 94th percentile
Weight 29 lbs. - 77th percentile
Head circumference - 49.5 cm. - 92nd percentile
{An inch taller, a pound heavier, and a slightly smaller head than Ella at this age}
Oh Lucy! She would be happy if I held her all day, every day and often whines and cries when I can't/don't. She is attached to me at the hip and has a hard time going to anyone else. She loves animals, especially dogs, and can spot a dog a mile away. She loves face-timing with grandma and grandpa because she gets to see their dogs, Duke and Daisy :). She is obsessed with Ella, and wants to do anything she does, wear whatever she does, and play with anything Ella touches. She loves reading books in Ella's bed before bedtime and snuggling up to her. She's working on developing her verbal skills but still has a ways to go, which is probably the biggest source of frustration for her and us on a daily basis. She repeats new words every day and is starting to put together two-word phrases. We think she's on the brink of a talking breakthrough, so we're going to give it some time, but we've considered speech therapy if things don't start progressing more. Her receptive language is great though - she understands pretty much everything we say and can follow multiple step directions. One of her strengths is that she is very physical. She loves climbing, learning new skills at Little Gym (walking on the balance beam, climbing through obstacle courses, climbing up the climbing wall, swinging on the rings), riding her tricycle, going for walks, playing basketball, etc. She's usually pretty fearless when it comes to things like going down big slides, riding her trike off a curb, or jumping off the edge of a pool into our arms.
We are in the process of weaning her off her binky (or "bubba" as she calls it). As of 18 months, she's only been allowed to have it in her crib for naps and bedtime. She sometimes fights it and wants to take it with her when she gets up, but is pretty good about leaving it in her crib. Our next step (which we said we'd tackle around 2 years old) is getting rid of it for good. Wish us luck!
I'm so glad we celebrated her birthday with friends while we were in Suncadia a week and a half before her birthday because she was so sick on the actual day. It was definitely a birthday that we'll remember, but not in a good way! Poor Lucy had thrown up multilple times the day before her birthday, so we cancelled all plans and just stayed home. Luckily Ella was on spring break that week, so besides cancelling some fun play dates, and not going to Little Gym that morning, we were able to just stay home and take it easy.
We were excited to surprise her with balloons and streamers when she woke up, but she was still feeling pretty icky and wasn't too into it...
Her request was birthday donuts for breakfast, and thankfully she was able to keep it down ;)...
Feeling a little better (or just on a sugar high)...
I'm pretty sure she ended up in three or four different pairs of jammies that day due to some pretty icky diapers. She didn't want to put on real clothes, and her request by the afternoon was Santa jammies. I couldn't argue with her being that it was her birthday and she still wasn't feeling great, so I had to forget about the cute birthday outfit I had planned on putting her in. Opening a few presents from our family...
Not shown after present opening: Lily somehow escaped from our back yard, and after an hour of searching for her, I got a call from a vet in Lynnwood that somebody had picked her up and brought her in to check if she was micro-chipped. Thankfully the microchip worked and we got her back a few hours later. By then we were all hungry, and since Lucy had been feeling better and hadn't thrown up all day, we decided to try dinner at Red Robin. A few bites into dinner, Lucy threw up at the table (I caught it in my hand...awesome), so we packed up dinner to go, brought it home and put the girls to bed. No cupcakes or birthday candles for her!
Lucy got to do a birthday "re-do" when we celebrated her birthday while my parents were in town the following weekend. We got to have dinner with Tom, Sheena, Sheena's mom, and my parents (all in town for Sheena's shower), and then open a few more presents and finally let her blow out birthday candles...
My talented mom made Ella this darling miniature replica of her Elsa dress for her American Girl doll...
I guess if you're going to have a horrible birthday, your second birthday is the one to do it as you won't remember it! We love you Lucy and hope your next birthdays are much healthier and happy!
A few more photos from our "birthday shoot" a few weeks before her birthday...
