Lucy turns three!

 

Lucy's three year stats:

Height 38.94 inches (89th percentile)

Weight 35 lbs 7 ounces (88th percentile)

BMI 16.48 (72nd percentile, meaning she is right on for her height and weight ratio)

I think it's the combination of Lucy turning three and becoming a big sister all within a few weeks, that she seems SO big and grown up to me all of a sudden.  I think she's finally coming into her own and our days are getting somewhat easier with her, although some days are still super tough as she can throw a tantrum with the best of them.  She is our strong-willed hard-headed girl, but I know it will be to her benefit someday!  It's just hard now parenting a three year old that is hard to reason with :).

It's funny to think back to a year ago when we were worried if she would ever talk and I had her tested for speech therapy.  She didn't qualify at the time and now, we can't get her to stop talking and she has only one volume: LOUD!  She doesn't know how to use a quiet voice and has so much to say, all the time.  While we can understand her for the most part (sometimes we have Ella "interpret" what she's saying for us, ha!), I think people outside our family sometimes struggle to understand everything she says.  While we're not concerned about IF she'll talk now, we do think she could use some help in her annunciation of words.  So I just had her evaluated again, and she did qualify to get speech therapy for articulation.  Although I have to admit, I sort of love how she talks right now.  Her pronunciation is often hilarious and is so sweet.  "Thank you" is "pank you" and "sip" is "pip", etc. She always says "anything" when she means "nothing" and I don't want to correct her - like when I say, "Lucy, what's the matter?" She responds with, "Anything!" :) She makes us laugh with the things she comes up with to say, and we love her imagination and ability to pretend and make believe.  While she started out having an aggressive love towards her little brother, she's eased off a bit and has become a little more gentle with him.  She still loves to smother him with hugs and kisses all the time.  She loves for Cody or I to snuggle in bed with her before nap or bedtime and often requests to hold our hand as she's falling asleep.  Naps are hit and miss these days, but I still try most days to attempt to put her down.  She would much prefer quiet time as she wants to keep up with her big sister and do everything Ella does.

We had a small birthday party for Lucy at our house with a few close friends.  Lucy requested an ice cream sundae birthday party and she had a great time making sundaes and playing with her friends.  Pizza and ice cream were about the extent of what I could handle for a party with a three week old baby!
