The months keep flying by and Lucy is already 15 months! Well, actually almost 16 months now, but just getting around to this post. Love this sweet, snuggly, goofy girl who is constantly making us laugh. She loves asserting her independence these days and is quite strong-willed - one of the few similarities between both our girls!
Lucy's 15 month check up stats:
Weight 25 lbs. 4 oz. - 90th percentile
Height 31.5 inches - 74th percentile
Head circumference 18.7 inches - 89th percentile
Long (and boring to most!), but some things I want to remember about Lu at this age:
She is (and has been for awhile) obsessed with dogs. She LOVES Lily. She full on eats dog food and dog treats on a daily basis...gross. She gets really excited when she sees other dogs and doesn't hesitate going right up to them. She says "dah-dah-dah-dah" over and over when there's a dog in sight. She loves getting Lily a treat after she's been outside...Lucy knows right where the treats are kept, will get one out, and then will run in circles around the couch laughing while Lily chases her.
She throws her food like crazy. We're working on getting her to leave her food on her high chair tray when she doesn't want something or put her milk cup up on the table instead of just throwing it on the ground. Lily has quickly learned to hover under Lucy's chair whenever she's eating. Our floors would honestly be so gross if Lily wasn't there to clean up immediately! She's become a much pickier eater and would prefer to snack on the go all day rather than sit still and eat a meal. She generally hates to be confined, whether it's in her highchair or her carseat.
She loves her binkies. I think partly because teething has been so rough lately and it helps to soothe her gums. She always has about 3 or 4 binkies in her crib that she sleeps with. She usually has one in her mouth and one in each hand when we go get her from her crib. I think she would have a binky in all day everyday if we let her, but we're working on only having it in her crib and carseat for now. I have a feeling she'll have a tough time giving it up when the time comes.
She started really walking steadily around 13 months. Around that time she started preferring walking over crawling and has kept us on our toes ever since. She's starting to loose some of her adorable leg rolls with all the walking she does - I think she's down to just one yummy roll on each thigh now :). When we're at home, she just does laps and paces all over the place, getting into whatever she can find.
Teething has been ROUGH lately, really for the last few months. We can see her swollen red gums and know she's in pain. We've recently seen her two bottom and two top molars cut through. It's so hard when there's so little you can do to help her! She will often manically run around clawing at her mouth and bite anything she can to soothe the pain (which often happens to be Ella!). And there are full days where she's just crying and miserable and we wonder if she's getting more. And then there's the runny nose that comes with teething...it seems to be a faucet for a few days at a time. Mornings and night time are often the worse and she just wants to be held. It's soo sad! So ready for this phase to be over with.
She dropped her morning nap around 14 months, which makes it so much easier for us to get out and do more in the morning! So she now naps only in the afternoon from about 1-3pm. She goes to bed between 7-8pm, sleeps through the night, and is usually up in the morning between 7-8am. She often cries hard when she initially lays down at night, but once she's out, she usually sleeps until morning.
She has a handful of words she can say and is starting to communicate more with sign language. She can say "mama", "dada", "el la la" or "la la" (Ella), "dah-dah" (doggy). She does a lot of grunting and pointing to get what she wants, goes and bangs on the fridge or pantry when she's hungry, signs for "more","please", "thank you", and "all done". She has less words than Ella did at this age, probably because she has an older sister who speaks for her all the time! But we know she's right on schedule developmentally and is doing just fine.
Other random tidbits: She does a cute little "Shhh, shhh, shh" sound when she's shushing and rocking her baby dolls. She loves to blow kisses, wave hello and good-bye to anyone, and gives the best hugs and (open mouth) kisses. She has a goofy little sense of humor and knows when she's being funny. She's become obsessed with books (especially books with animals). She was getting motion sickness when we were in the car to the point where she was throwing up on a regular basis (poor thing!). We tried accupressure wrist bands, but she wouldn't keep them on, so she's now forward facing in her carseat, which seems to be helping the motion sickness.
