Success! Both girls are actually smiling in our Santa picture this year! It really is a shock that the photographer got them both to smile being that Ella was in tears and close to a major meltdown right before this was taken. When we first arrived to see Santa, Ella didn't want to go anywhere near him and was in tears asking to leave (even though she was all talk and so excited to see him in the days/weeks leading up to seeing him!). The photographer, who was wonderful, could tell she was close to losing it and asked Santa to leave. We then put both girls on the big Santa chair and he reappeared for a picture standing behind the chair without the girls knowing he was there (like last year's Santa photo). I was bummed we didn't get a picture of them on his lap but didn't want to scar Ella for life by forcing a photo she didn't want to take. After the girls got off the chair, Santa reappeared and gave Ella a candy cane. Apparently we should have started with the candy cane because she was Santa's best bud after that, telling him what she wanted for Christmas and giving him high fives and hugs. I asked if we could try one more picture, and Ella agreed to sit on his lap! In typical Lucy fashion, she went with the flow :). Like I said, the photographer was great, and was so patient, didn't rush us, and worked hard to get those smiles! I have been so impressed with the Santa photographers at the Bellevue Nordstrom the last two years and plan to keep going back!
